WHAT IS A BUSINESS CARD?

What is a business card? What is its importance? These questions run in the minds of many especially the younger generation who think that with the many technological advances business cards are overrated and a thing of the past. Simply put, a Business Card is small card containing information about a company or identifying an individual in connection with his or her business.

WHAT SHOULD BE IN A BUSINESS CARD?

In numerous occasions I have had clients who want to squeeze a lot of information and pictures in the small card in turn flooding it. I always try to clarify why it’s such a bad idea to sell their brands to potential stakeholders by doing so.
Below I have created a list of the most important information that should be added on a Business Card

•Full Name
•Job Title
•Logo
•Contact Info
•Address
•Website
•Tagline
•Relevant Social Media Handle

NB If you don't have all the info listed above don't worry, just add what you have.

WHY SHOULD YOU HAVE A BUSINESS CARD?

Ever heard of the phrase first impressions count. You don't get a second Chance to make a first impression. Business cards play a pivotal role in introducing and gaining free publicity for your establishment. It doesn’t matter what line of work you’re in, whether it’s a startup or huge established business you need a Business Card. It gives an impression of professionalism and shows that you take a lot of pride in your work. I feel like you don't need any mediocre business card but you need a business card with an exceptional and alluring design. A business card that someone will keep for the longest time just because of its astounding design.

As an Entrepreneur you'll get to attend a lot of networking events and you'll also get a chance to interact with people in your day to day endeavors. You'll need that business card to share with various prospective stakeholders.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD BUSINESS CARD?

A good business card should be simple, clear and straight forward.

• Keep it Simple

A good business card should be simple. Including each and every aspect on your business card can be tempting but it’s not a good notion. It’s not the place to do that. Leave some white space on your business card so that it is decipherable. People are busy out there, they don't have time to read all the details so make sure you stick to the essentials.

• Have a Theme Color

Having a theme color is also essential because from the word go you already know what your card should look like. The color is also important for brand identity. Each and every brand has a color that they use, so make sure your business card matches that color for branding purposes.

• Design For Your Audience

People have different business ventures that they run concurrently .You can include all of them in one card particularly if they complement each other. For example Graphic Designing and Photography complement each other, so you can use one side of your card for Photography and the other for Graphic Designing. If the businesses are loosely connected then it’s not a good idea. You should use separate cards for each business.

• Professional Printing

This is of paramount importance. You can have a good design but poor printing will ruin all that. Home printed business cards may not be a good idea because they make you look like an amateur. Don't try to cut costs just get your business cards professionally printed and make that good first impression.

So to recapitulate everything above, your business card should be able to convey who you are, what you do, where you work, and how to connect with you in the simplest, very memorable and meaningful way.
